Ford ECOnetic Technology

Ford ECOnetic Technology is a customer driven initiative bringing together a range of vehicle features and technologies specifically targeting better fuel economy, reduced emissions and overall lower cost-of-ownership – without compromise to great design or driving dynamics.

For example, EcoBoost petrol engine technology and refined Duratorq diesel engine technology deliver more torque and power with lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (meeting the latest Euro 5 emission standards).

For customers wanting the best fuel economy and the lowest CO2 emissions Ford continues to offer its dedicated ECOnetic range including the best in class Ford Fiesta at 98g/km.

 EcoBoost
You'll discover how you can reduce your environmental impact and make savings with a wide range of innovations including our class-leading range of turbocharged petrol engines which combine higher power and a broader spread of torque with reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption.

New C-MAX, for example, has the first of a new generation of high-efficiency Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines. The range-topping 2.0 litre EcoBoost delivers 150PS, with fuel consumption of only 6.6l/100km (42.8 mpg) combined. CO2 emissions are 154g/km.

The EcoBoost engine range is extended further with the introduction of the 1.6-litre 160PS EcoBoost petrol engine on the New Ford Mondeo. Its direct injection, variable valve timing and turbocharging technology give the performance of a larger engine with the fuel economy and lower CO2 benefits of a smaller engine. In short, more power, less fuel.

PowerShift
Ford PowerShift delivers a refined, premium driving experience. Featuring a new state-of-the-art six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission, it cleverly selects the next appropriate gear at exactly the right moment, delivering seamless gear changes with no disruption to the flow of power.

You’ll also enjoy improved fuel economy compared to a conventional automatic transmission. As well as optimising efficiency and fuel consumption, Ford PowerShift has a sport mode that allows you to switch gears at the flick of the gearshift for a more dynamic performance.

Ford Duratorq diesel technology
Our diesel engines use the latest advanced technology to deliver performance with outstanding fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions
The new Mondeo with 1.6 Duratorq TDCi 115PS diesel engine is smooth, quiet and responsive. It offers CO2 emissions of only 114g/km for the six-speed manual transmission version.

No compromise solutions to lower CO2

Ford reveals a technologically driven initiative specifically intended to continue its strategy to improve fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions, without compromising its great design or driving dynamics. The new 5-door Focus ECOnetic with optional Auto-Start-Stop brings many of these Ford ECOnetic Technologies together to achieve an impressive 99 g/km CO2 emissions and 74.2 mpg/3.8 l/100 km fuel economy.

Other highlights

You'll discover how you can reduce your environmental impact and make savings with a wide range of innovations including the new EcoBoost petrol engines, enhanced Duratorq diesel engines and Ford PowerShift transmissions.

Ford Motor Company's global EcoBoost engine family is designed to deliver affordable, fuel-efficient vehicles that are also great to drive. Direct petrol injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing all combine to improve fuel economy by up to 20%, compared to conventional petrol engines.

For consumers wanting the best fuel economy and lowest CO2 emissions Ford continues to offer its dedicated ECOnetic range including the best in class Fiesta at 98 g/km. In addition, the 2010 Focus ECOnetic achieves 99 g/km by being the first vehicle to feature the optional new Auto-Start-Stop system together with Smart Regenerative Charging and the all-new driver information system, Ford Eco Mode.

Auto-Start-Stop

The Focus ECOnetic 5-door sees the debut of the optional new Ford Auto-Start-Stop system. The system automatically shuts down the engine when the vehicle is at idle – at a red light, for example – and restarts the engine when the driver wants to move off, saving the fuel usually wasted while the vehicle is stationary.

This advanced system has been carefully designed with customer comfort in mind providing consistent starting and stopping performance that is smooth, quiet and seamless – meaning you don't have to make any changes to the way you drive.

The system can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 5% in mixed driving conditions. While in an urban environment and in heavy traffic the savings could increase to as much as 10%.

Smart Regenerative Charging

Smart Regenerative Charging creates 'free' electrical energy when you brake which is used to boost your existing power sources.

This helps to ensure that the battery is kept charged in the most efficient way thus reducing the amount of fuel used.

Another example of efficient technologies aimed at improving fuel efficiency and lowering CO2 emissions.

Ford Eco Mode

Another first for the 2010 Focus ECOnetic, this smart software provides useful advice on achieving better fuel economy according to your driving style. This system assesses the influence of your driving behaviour on fuel consumption -including gearshifting, anticipation (driving as consistently and smoothly as possible) and motorway driving (driving at the most efficient speed on motorways and country roads). In addition, the system considers the percentage of cold-engine short trips.

Ford Eco Mode then generates a driver profile and a score based on areas where you can improve fuel economy. Over time, this technology will help you to save fuel and so reduce running costs while having less impact on the environment

ECOnetic evolves

Our range of award-winning Ford ECOnetic models continue to benefit from longer gearing, ultra-low rolling resistance tyres, lowered suspension, unique engine calibrations and better aerodynamics resulting in much improved CO2 emissions.

During 2010 a number of Ford ECOnetic Technologies will be featured for the first time in the latest Focus ECOnetic model. These include Auto-Start-Stop, Smart Regenerative Charging and Ford Eco Mode. Combined, these help to deliver lower emissions of 99 g/km and achieve better fuel efficiency at 74.2 mpg/3.8 l/100 km whilst maintaining its great driving dynamics and stylish looks.

Even without optional Auto-Start-Stop the Focus ECOnetic 5-door and wagon models achieve 104 g/km.

The Ford ECOnetic vehicle range demonstrates how we are committed to offering customers a unique combination of fuel-saving technologies in one package as part of our vision for a more sustainable future.

Note: Fuel economy figures quoted are based on the European Fuel Economy Directive EU 80/1268/EEC and will differ from fuel economy drive cycle results in other regions of the world.
